Car Rentals and Driving in Boston

Due to the high level of frustration driving around Boston can engender in even the most savvy navigator, we strongly encourage you NOT to rent a car. Each of the hotels we're suggesting you stay in is convenient to public transportation (the "T"), which is safe and efficient. Taking the T is also cheaper than parking, for which some hotels charge close to $30 a day. Attempting to find metered, on-street parking can be like the Quest for the Holy Grail, which you could then fill with the number of quarters you'll need to avoid getting a ticket.

Boston and Cambridge are considered two of the best walking cities in the country, in part because all of the sights, shopping and history are easily accessible by foot. So, a car shouldn't be necessary.

If you do decide to drive, be patient and prepared to get lost. And if a Boston driver gives you a honk and "friendly gesture", know that it's just our way of welcoming you to our city!
